Location Data[edit source]
Balto uses your device's GPS location to provide the following features:
- Display your current position on the map
- Measure your walking speed during training exercises
- Record GPS tracks during training sessions
Location data is collected only while the app is in use or running in the background with your explicit permission. Location data is stored locally on your device only and is never transmitted to any external server, sold, or shared with any third party.
Weather Data[edit source]
Balto requests current weather conditions from the Open-Meteo API (open-meteo.com) using your device's GPS coordinates. No personally identifiable information is transmitted. Open-Meteo's privacy policy can be found at open-meteo.com/en/terms.
Training Data[edit source]
All training logs, exercise records, and related data are stored locally on your device in a SQLite database. This data is never transmitted to any external server, sold, or shared with any third party.
Map Tiles[edit source]
Balto downloads map tiles from OpenTopoMap (opentopomap.org) to display topographic maps. Your approximate location may be inferred from the tiles requested. OpenTopoMap's terms of use can be found at opentopomap.org.
Permissions[edit source]
Balto requests the following permissions:
- Location (precise, always)
- Required for GPS position display, and speed monitoring
- Microphone
- Not used directly; referenced by internal libraries
- Vibration
- Used for haptic feedback
Data Retention[edit source]
All data remains on your device. You can delete all data by uninstalling the app.
